The Highest Tide by Jim
Lynch. This Northwest writer has created a gem,
rare and stunning, in this
debut novel, which won the Pacific Northwest
Book Award for 2006. Thirteen year old Miles
O’Malley lives with his parents on the tidal
flats of the Puget Sound. He is a little genius
when it comes to knowledge of sea life that
calls the beach home. One day he discovers a
giant squid, a sea creature that doesn’t belong
there. Miles does not realize how his life is
going change with that discovery. This is a
remarkable coming of age story, with a
fascinating twist. I had to look up some of the
mussels, clams, star fish, barnacles and other
sea life he describes. If you care about the
coast, or simply a great tale pick up this award
winning author. Jim will be signing his novel at
the store on Saturday May 20, from noon to two.

Marriage is Murder written
by Nick Hall has been cast with Rich Emery,
Diana Portwood, Holly Harrison and Ellen
Christian. In real life Rich and Patti are
married. There are only two characters in the
play, a divorced husband and wife who write
murder mysteries together. Each night will be a
different cast with each of the four mixing it
up as to who is onstage each night leaving the
other two as stage crew for that evening. This
is a great tour de force that director, Tracy
Ratliff Blakeman has conceived and should prove
to be entertaining, interesting and will be
beckoning some audience members to come back and
see it more than once.
